Week 36: Baby's Getting Into Position
Your baby is now about the size of a head of romaine lettuce.
Avg. Length: 47.4 cm
(Crown to Heel)
Your Baby This Week
Most babies are now head down, ready for birth. The fetus has lost its lanugo, has hair on its head, smooth skin from added fat, and chubby limbs. Lungs are likely mature enough for life outside, and sucking and digesting breast milk is possible.
Your Body This Week
You might notice more bladder leaks when laughing or coughing. This is normal as your pelvic floor muscles relax for birth. Many healthcare providers recommend performing pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) to strengthen these muscles in preparation for birth and recovery.
Tips for Your Partner
Help keep your partner safe from slips and falls, as her center of gravity has shifted. Go with her to prenatal visits and help monitor her health, like checking her blood pressure. Your support and presence are more important than ever.
