Week 33: Getting Ready for the Big Day

Week 33 baby size comparison

Your baby is now about the size of a pineapple.

Avg. Length: 43.7 cm

(Crown to Heel)

Your Baby This Week

Your baby's brain and nervous system are now fully developed! While other bones are hardening, the skull is staying soft and flexible to make the trip down the birth canal easier. Your little one's pupils can even change size in response to light now.

Your Body This Week

You might start feeling your uterus 'practicing' for labor with Braxton Hicks contractions. These feel like a tightening across your bump for about 30 seconds. They shouldn't be painful. Distinguishing false labor from real labor can be tricky. ACOG states that true labor contractions typically become regular, stronger, and do not stop with movement or rest.

Tips for Your Partner

Time to learn the signs of real labor! As the ACOG said, true contractions get longer, stronger, and closer together, and they don't stop when you walk. Try to wrap up work on time and get home early. Your support is extra important now as you both get ready for the big arrival.
