Week 16: An Important Health Screening

Week 16 baby size comparison

Your baby is now about the size of an avocado.

Avg. Length: 11.6 cm

(Crown to Rump)

Your Baby This Week

Your baby's ears can hear your voice, and its eyes—though closed—can sense light and move slowly. The baby's about the size of an avocado, with skin thickening and limbs making small, coordinated movements.

Your Body This Week

As your baby hits a growth spurt, you'll notice more weight gain. Try to embrace these changes! To feel good, treat yourself to new clothes that fit your beautiful shape. Your provider may also offer a second-trimester screening test this week. Talk to them about what this blood test involves.

Tips for Your Partner

One of the best ways to show support is by going with her to prenatal visits, especially important ones like this week's. You can also help her feel comfortable by stocking up on stretch-mark cream and rubbing it on her belly. Picking up any recommended supplements, like calcium, is a great help too.
