Week 23: Your Baby is Practicing to Breathe
Your baby is now about the size of a large mango.
Avg. Length: 28.9 cm
(Crown to Heel)
Your Baby This Week
Your baby's lungs are now making surfactant, a substance vital for breathing after birth. Fingerprints and footprints are forming, and they're even practicing breathing movements. With limbs now in proportion, you'll feel those kicks more and might even see your tummy move!
Your Body This Week
As your baby grows, you might feel some rib pain and shortness of breath. Don't be surprised if your breasts start leaking colostrum, or early milk. Sleep might be tricky, so try lying on your side with a pillow between your knees for better rest and circulation.
Tips for Your Partner
Help prepare for your baby's arrival by researching big-ticket items like a stroller and car seat. A small night-light can make nighttime bathroom trips safer for Mom. Also, gently encourage healthy eating habits by helping her avoid sugary snacks.
