Week 18: Baby's hearing and movement milestones
Your baby is now about the size of a bell pepper.
Avg. Length: 14.2 cm
(Crown to Rump)
Your Baby This Week
Your baby is now covered in lanugo, which helps keep them warm. Ears start to stand out on the head and baby may begin to hear sounds. Reflexes like sucking and swallowing are developing. Baby is moving a lot—you might feel a gentle flutter soon.
Your Body This Week
This could be the week you feel the first tiny movements, often called 'quickening.' It might feel like a gentle flutter or bubbling inside. You may also notice a dark line down your belly (linea nigra) and feel a bit clumsy as your center of gravity shifts. Your breasts might be getting bigger, too.
Tips for Your Partner
Thinking about a getaway? Now is a great time to plan a 'babymoon'! Whether it's a short trip or a long-haul adventure, prioritize her comfort. Get the doctor's OK for any major travel and stick together while exploring. The goal is relaxation and connection before the baby arrives.
